In doing this we use eye movement to locate, process, focus, and release.
Brainspotting therapy is viewed as a brain-based tool that harnesses our ability to self-scan and self-heal. This technique strengthens an individual, providing a natural resource for resilience through identifying and healing underlying trauma that is affecting a person’s daily life.

It is clear that our mental health can have a profound impact on our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It’s important to recognise that we all have mental health, and that our lives differ between each of us. However, it’s important to know that there is support available and you’re not alone within your journey.
Here are some of the topics I have covered whilst working with clients:
Whether you feel certain about your decision or finding it difficult to decide. When considering an abortion, it’s important to remember that this decision is yours, this is your experience, and it can be a difficult one. Some individuals may benefit from speaking with a counsellor.
There are many different forms of abuse, the most commonly known is domestic violence, child abuse, and emotional abuse. However, remember any kind of behaviour that deliberately causes harm or upset to you can be considered abuse. Working with a therapist can help you in accepting, understand and processing these events and moving forward with your life.
Addiction is often used when an individual feels unable to control habits and behaviours, this can become harmful for the individual. Examples of addiction can include alcohol, gambling addiction, smoking, social media. Counselling can support individual in recognising the problem and taking steps towards recovery.
A natural response, and a basic emotion. It can occur when we may feel under attack, deceived, insulted or frustrated. Anger can have a significant impact on our quality of life, it can affect our relationships, career and overall well-being. Therapy can support you in effectively controlling your anger, providing a space to reconnect with yourself and understand your anger.
Anxiety is a feeling that we have all experienced, it is common to feel tense or unsure within a stressful situation. Some individuals can be affected more than others. Despite it being a normal experience when these feelings are continuous, strong and last a long amount of time. They can be overwhelming. Therapy can support you in understanding your cycle of anxiety, educating you on your triggers and providing resources to support you in managing your anxiety.
Any situation where a child is unable to bond with a caregiver can manifest within their adult life as an attachment disorder. Therapy provides a space to explore losses and find closure. Additionally, it can support individuals to build better relationships with their loved ones.
When we lose someone or something there is a period of time that we spend adjusting to this loss. There is now right or wrong way to feel during this period and we must acknowledge that everyone copes in their own way. Grief is normal but it can manifest through anger, withdrawal and feeling numb of emotions. Therapy can help through accepting what has happened, understanding what life looks like without the person/thing and finding coping strategies to support you in moving forward.
Body dysmorphia (Body dysmorphic disorder BDD) is a diagnosed condition that causes an individual to have distorted view of their appearance. It can be common for an individual to feel insecure about themselves and often over time we learn to accept these parts of us and move forward. However, for some these thoughts are incredibly distressing. This can potentially lead to avoidant or obsessive behaviours. Therapy can support you in recognising your internal narrative, understanding where its come from and making changes to embrace yourself and feel empowered within your body and mind.
Bullying takes on many forms, including verbal threats, physical assault, name-calling, gossiping and cyberbullying. We define bullying as a repeated and unwanted behaviour where there is intent to hurt an individual, physically or emotionally. Bullying can induce anxiety, depression and isolation. Therapy can help you cope with the effects.
Caregivers support other people within their day-to-day life, whether this is professionally or the care of a relative/loved one. This support is essential to help loved ones get the most out of life, but it can be taxing on the carer both mentally and physically. Therapy can be beneficial for a carer to give them a space where they are able to focus on themselves, have an opportunity to talk and provide a safe and confidential environment.
Depression can take it’s form in many forms, you may experience days whether it feels impossible to complete your daily tasks or get out of bed, other days you may be able to follow your normal routine. It can be incredibly difficult for those who suffer with depression and those around them. Counselling for depression can provide an opportunity to identify, address and manage self-defeating thoughts that can affect our behaviour. Many types of counselling and psychotherapy can be effective depending on the individual.
Eating disorder affect people emotionally, physically and socially. Central to a persons relationship with food, eating and themselves.
Categories of eating disorders include:
Anorexia Nervosa
Bulimia
Binge-eating disorder
When working with eating disorders therapy can provide a step towards recovery, supporting an individual to change eating behaviours and this can be considered a scary process yet with the right therapist this journey can empower individuals to regain healthy relationship with themselves and food.
When you have feelings that your body is working against you can be distressing and incredibly painful. Additionally, you may be feeling an expectation to make difficult decision regarding your future. Research shows that infertility can have a stressful impact on relationships and a person sex life. It can also make an individual feel isolated and struggle to communicate with their partner. Additionally, there is also a possibility of experiencing a profound sense of loss or grief.
Research has shown that infertility often has a stressful impact on relationships and can affect a couple’s sex life. The condition is isolating and can impact how a couple communicates with each other and with the people around them. There can be a profound sense of loss and grief which can impact on closeness. Therapy can support you within this process giving you the space to explore your emotions and feel support whilst you navigate through this.
Whether you’re in a room full of people or alone in a room. Loneliness can be a part of both of these elements, it is defined as a subjective, unwelcome feeling of lack of companionship. It can be symbolic that we are not having our needs met within our relationships and connections. Therapy can help in connection and a sense of validation with your feelings.
Low-self confidence is normal, but over time if a person consistently feels like this it can have a negative effect on our mental health. Therapy can provide a safe and inclusive environment for you to navigate your disappointments and setbacks.
If you’ve been affected by miscarriage, speaking to a counsellor can give you an opportunity to express and accept your feelings about what has happened, in your own time.
Obsessive compulsive disorder involves intrusive and obsessional thoughts, that are often followed by compulsive urges.
Some of the key behaviours to OCD:
Obsession
Anxiety
Compulsion
Temporary relief
Talking therapy can support you in overcoming problems through recognising and changing individuals thinking and behaviour. CBT in particularly support you in distinguishing between the thoughts and actions.
Passive-aggressive behaviour manifests in ways. It can be recognised through resistance of requests, procrastination, disagreement or by being stubborn. They may refuse to be emotionally open – even if they are apparently angry or upset, they will insist they are fine, shutting down the conversation. They may even make excuses to avoid certain people. Therapy can often be helpful in exploring potential triggers, and understanding reasoning around behaviour and then learning to manage them in healthier ways.
Once someone experiences a traumatic situation or event, your body and mind can react different. PTSD can develop for some people when the experience flashbacks and nightmares. These flashback can be triggered through daily scenarios/items and can make day-to-day life difficult. PTSD can be diagnosed through a doctor and can manifest itself within six months of the event. However, symptoms may occur earlier. Brainspotting therapy can be particularly helpful to support you in processing this trauma.
Relationships are a key part of our lives. They bring happiness and support, but that doesn’t mean they’re easy. When we encounter problems in our relationships, it can be difficult to know where to turn. Talking to a relationship counsellor can really make a difference.
Almost everyone experiences stress from time to time and, while a small amount of stress can motivate us, too much or prolonged stress can be damaging to both our physical and mental health. For some people, stress causes them to adopt unhealthy coping methods such as smoking or drinking – and while this may feel like a quick fix, ultimately these are only covering the issue.
Everyone experiences suicidal thoughts differently. It may be that you feel unable to cope with what’s happening in your life. For many, it’s less about wanting to die but instead feeling unable to continue living the life they currently have.
You may find the feelings come and go, or like they build gradually over time. Not understanding why you feel this way is very common.
Here are some examples of how suicidal thoughts can make you feel:
